Replica IWC Portofino Watches

Other companies and played with this concept as a propeller, but Perrelet is taking it to the next level with the jet engine look. Cleverly hidden in the rear of the vanes are weights that help the assembly spin, but to the wearer’s eye, everything look symmetrical. The turbine is crafted from 12 blades of titanium. Hidden between the spinning blades are luminous hour markers. To enhance legibility, the chapter ring of the dial includes minute markers and further hour indicators. The look is really sensational. See the Perrelet Turbine watch video here.

The best watches to compare this with are the Casio Pathfinder watches (one of which I reviewed recently). The watches both share the desire to go outside and rough it, are products are large high volume companies,as well as offer a bevy of major functions that include:

  • Time with full calendar
  • Compass
  • Altimeter
  • Barometer (with mini-weather station readout)
  • Thermometer
  • Logs for all major functions
  • Stopwatch
  • Timer
  • Alarm
  • Two easy-view timezones

The strap is really cool as well. It isn't new for this watch, but Blancpain as always provided an super high quality coated canvas strap that is retr0, comfortable, and stylish all at the same time. So there you have it, a brand new, really interesting sports watch from Blancpain that furthers the reach of the "Fathoms" watch line. We have really come far from that watch developed to only be resistant to 50 fathoms under water. For me, the 50, and now the 500 Fathoms have always had a place on that short list of, "if I could only wear one watch, I would have one of these watches." Maybe you feel the same. Price will likely be over ,000, probably shy of ,000.

So what do I think about the watch overall? I think it is a conservatively styled, handsome watch, that has a feeling of quality easily capable of many good years of wrist service. Though it is not the type of watch that hardcore watch aficionado's will lust for, aside from the historic and collectible significance of it. You know, Bill Clinton started a modern trend with wrist watches in wearing an inexpensive Timex Ironman during his presidency. His doing so was a clever tactic to appeal to the "average person," (even though it pissed off other politicians and foreign dignitaries). The Timex was admittedly an ugly watch, and Clinton coincidentally is currently a major high-end watch collector. I think that Obama is doing something similar, but trying to be more tasteful about it. The Jorg Gray 6500 won't offend anyone, and has a suitable amount of function, style, and classic demeanor - especially for a politician, or the president. Plus the watch is analog, not digital. It makes total sense for him to wear it, and I think he made the right choice to keep it on his wrist.  The decision he made was a good one also for Jorg Gray, and put this timepiece forever in the place as a relic of the times, and all that his presidency means to many different groups. So once again, if you want to own the "the President's watch," you can, and  you should have no qualms about it. It is not the last wrist watch you'll ever get, but a fun and meaningful addition to your collection.

The Oceana watches are supposed to be available soon. Hopefully this summer. Each timepiece will be hand assembled in Barcelona by Pita with input from the customer of course. Prices are estimated to typically be somewhere in the 3000 - 5000 euro range. Which isn't really too bad given the boutique approach, and interesting style and technology in the watch. I know that if I was in the market for a unique and good looking diver watch (which I typically am), this little number would be high up on the list.

Oddly enough, the watch industry has incredible difficultly getting decent low-cost watch winders out to us. For that reason you will find that most of the affordable ones are Chinese made, unless you want to spend many hundreds or thousands of dollar for something basic that is American or European made. Having said that, a lot of Chinese made watch winders are pure garbage. I've had some that die consistently within a few months. For that reason it is important to get one that you can trust, or at least maintain yourself cheaply. On the plus side, a lot of the Chinese made watch winders are cheap enough to be "disposable" to a degree. Today I am going to review a Chinese made watch winder with what I am told has a Japanese motor, that significantly adds to the value, as Japanese motors are far superior to what China typically produces on a mass level. I don't mean to sounds as though I am bashing Chinese goods, but rather that the reality is that much of their goods are so low quality, and in such great numbers, as it overshadows the good things being manufactured in China these days.

Bill Paxton Wears IWC Aquatimer Chrono-Automatic Watch In Big Love Season 3 Feature Articles It took me the better part of season three so far to spot this watch. I knew that earlier seasons of Big Love (on HBO) had Bill Paxton (playing as character Bill Henrickson) wearing an Omega Speedmaster. This was likely out of his own collection. Season three sees him wearing something similar looking on camera (both steel with black and white faces), but a different watch. I eventually decided that it was an IWC Aquatimer Chrono-Automatic. It look a lot of pausing and staring to figure this out (trust me). This is a good choice for a man with three wives, and a ton of duties on his plate. When he is not "living the principle" the character acts as a strong businessman and Salt Lake City responsible citizen!

Linde Werdelin is mighty proud of their first year at Baselworld. It marks a big occasion, a true entrance into the world not only making watches, but being part of the watch industry. So proud that they have enlisted bloggers like me and RJ at Fratellowatches.com to share with you the novelties and personalities you would have seen if you were at Basel this year. The people at Linde Werdelin are people. More importantly they understand good watches and they understanding modern ways of selling good watches. They are of the few luxury watch brands selling online. This is because they understand the modern market, as many older watch makers still poke at the Internet with a queazy face just as a youngster would to a plate of liver and onions.

This is probably the most popular watch of 2009 - even around the world. It is the main watch that President Barack Obama wears, and has worn since before he was elected President of the US. Obama received the watch for his 46th birthday by the Secret Service in August of 2007. He's been seen countless times wearing the watch, while in public, conducting state business, and during his personal time. It is a curious thing that what was such an obscure brand of special order corporate gift watches, is now almost a major brand. But like many have stated, you cannot buy better publicity than this - for the promotion of Jorg Gray makes sense. Obama did, in an almost random manner, receive the watch, but he has chosen to wear it proudly almost continually since. As you can imagine this fact has done wonders for watch maker Jorg Gray, who has now launched a brand new full line of watches. I've had the opportunity to meet with them and have myself acquired the famed "President Barack Obama watch." So here is my take on the timepiece that is seen on the most powerful person in the world. You too, can own the President's watch.

Apparently New Zealand is the latest country I've learned about that has watch makers. This is a very cool thing from the land next to the land down under. The last surprise came from Iceland; and before that was probably a few years ago when I learned about the Bozeman Watch Company straight outta small town Bozeman, Montana. Magrette is based in New Zealand's largest city Auckland, which is really a wonderful place that I've had the pleasure of once visiting. If you are wondering what special character a New Zealand watch company can imbue into watch, think no further than a history of nautical adventure, and the right art and culture coming from the Maori people.

Before looking at a Temption watch you need to understand what goes into their watches. I've written about Temption at length on aBlogtoRead.com, so I won't emulate a broken record by going over their design theory yet again. Let it be said that Klaus Ulbrich is a fan of Bauhaus, modernism, and a Japanese aesthetic called Wabisabi. The watches are all what I would consider a healthy mixture of architecturally poised Romanesque style with a veneer of Bauhaus and modernism to soften the edges and help emphasize function. That being said, the design is actually deceptively simple and almost a triumph of the understated.
